Tips for getting the best Atlantic Beach vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • First and foremost, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beach Cottage on the Canal has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
