Tips and Tricks to get the very best New Bern rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. A Place At The Beach III , One-bedroom Unit has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
