Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the right New Bern vacation home:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront highly rated! Linda's Lanai East has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
