Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfect New Bern rental home:

  • Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Windjammer Villas Condo in Fairfield Harbour-recreational amenities included! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
