Rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the best value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. White Marlin-Walk to The Atlantic Ocean, 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6 has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
