Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. This bright and colorful "beachy" condo is perfect for those seeking the sun! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
