Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Hideaway Suite** has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
