Strategies for getting the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summer is high season in New Bern. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the perfect New Bern rental home:

  • Start by having your family choose date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Grey Goose (Waterfront) Historic New Bern - Private Beach - BRING YOUR BOAT! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. message the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
