Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 2 The Max, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
