Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting the perfect rental in the New Bern area:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Spacious oceanfront home with large deck, beach access, grill, & W/D has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
