Strategies for getting the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Quaint Cottage in Beaufort, NC (Trails End) has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific New Bern beach you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
