Strategies to get the optimal New Bern rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the best rental home in the New Bern area:
- To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Pennies From Heaven, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
