Tips for getting the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect rental home in Emerald Isle:

  • Start by having your family commit to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Park Place, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
