Rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your New Bern rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Escape - Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
