Finding the best rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Summer months are high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To find the best value, shift your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to select the best rental:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Big Kahuna - Oceanfront (As seen on HGTV Beach Hunters) has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
