How to find the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. A Gritty Palace - Oceanfront House, 5BR, 4.5BA, Pine Knoll Shores has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
