Rental home tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Booking your New Bern vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing yourrental:
- First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Multi-level, oceanfront condo with WiFi, W\/D, & community pool\/tennis courts has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
