Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking the right New Bern vacation home:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Multi-level, oceanfront condo with WiFi, W\/D, & community pool\/tennis courts has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
