About this Property

  • Sleeps 5
  • 2 Bedrooms
  • 1 Bathrooms
  • Apartment
  • Approximately 787 square feet

Welcome to our impressive 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment in the heart of downtown New Bern. The iconic Spaight House, constructed ca. 1770, initially faced the Trent River before being reoriented to Metcalf St. between 1908 and 1913, and a sizable rear two-story addition also transformed it into a duplex . In the 1940S, the home was further divided into 7-8 dwellings. The last remodel, until the current times, was in the 1970s. Beginning in 2020, work began to update each unit to retain the historic allure, original detail, and appeal of the Spaight House while adapting to the modern lifestyle. The property has a enchanting mix of long-term tenants and short-term visitors.

THE SPACE
A generous 785 square feet, our apartment features a King Bed, 3 Twin beds, Private Balcony, and Prime Location!

EXTERIOR
Unwind on the historic front balcony as you take in the photogenic Tryon Palace Gardens view. A glimpse of the Trent River awaits to your left. Embrace the convenience of being steps away from everything downtown New Bern offers!

LIVING ROOM
Sink into the huge couch, wrap up in a comfortable blanket, and stream your favorite shows on the rare occasion you aren't hanging out in downtown New Bern during your stay! Appreciate the beauty of the fireplace, but please don't light a fire! This one's just for looks!

PRIMARY BEDROOM
Escape to our inviting primary bedroom, where a opulent king bed awaits dressed with European-style linens. European-style comforters are designed to provide each sleeper with their own individual covering, eliminating midnight blanket tug-of-war and improving individual temperature regulation. The blackout shades, 55” TV, Roku, dimmable lamps, and plenty of outlets make this bedroom a total hideaway.
This cozy getaway is ideal for relaxation and entertainment.

BATHROOM
The freshly modernized bathroom is complete with storage space and essential toiletries. Savor the soft Turkish cotton washcloths, hand, and huge body towels, makeup washcloths, hypoallergenic body soap, paraben-complimentary shampoo and conditioner, and quality toilet paper and tissues. Indulge in a cozy and convenient stay with all the amenities you need.

KITCHEN
The entirely-equipped kitchen offers all the necessary appliances and silverware for a seamless cooking experience, including a dishwasher. Savor your choice of drip coffee or French Press - a luxury you won't find in a hotel room! Industry-leading Kinetico K5 water filter connected to the refrigerator ensures top-quality drinking water and ice for you and less plastic for the environment.

BEDROOM 2
Bedroom 2 homes a twin-sized bed, a twin-sized trundle bed, and a twin-sized fold-out chair/bed. Generous windows flood the space with natural light when you want it and have blackout shades when you don’t. A desk, chair, charging station, and basic office supplies (scissors, note paper, pens) cater to remote working needs.

YARD
The backyard includes a enormous round table with 8 chairs and an umbrella that guests are welcome to use. The amenities may be shared with other guests and tenants in the building.

PARKING
Free parking is available behind the building, and guests are also welcome to park on the street. We ask that each unit limit parking behind the home to one car only, with additional cars parked on the street.

LAUNDRY
A complimentary washer and dryer complete with detergent and dryer sheets are supplied in the apartment for your convenience.

Our top Vacation rental booking tips:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking the bestrental home:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Downtown!! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
