Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Contemporary townhome with patio, grill, balcony, W\/D, & walkable location has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
