Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

When to reserve a New Bern rental & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First, have your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Carolina Dune West! Oceanfront Delight in Emerald Isle, Family & Pet Friendly has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain New Bern destination you long to visit, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
