How to book the best New Bern rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the New Bern area:

  • Start by having your family agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Canal-Front Cottage with Deepwater Boat Slip, Waterfront Deck & W/D has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
