Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Atlantic Emerald, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
