Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose and book the perfectrental:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Why Knot Getaway...Rooftop with WaterView! Unit D has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
