Tips for getting the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 3 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific New Bern attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
