Our top New Bern rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, shift your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and picking your prefectvacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Completely remodeled 2023 1st Flr Oceanview Emerald Isle,3BR/3BA condo has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
