Strategies to get the best New Bern vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking your New Bern rental:

  • First, have your group select the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront OLDE TOWN YACHT CLUB Condo w/ Pool & Stunning Views of Radio Island has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
