New Bern rental home tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront OLDE TOWN YACHT CLUB Condo w/ Pool & Stunning Views of Radio Island has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
