Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your family decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Spectacular views from this 2nd Row East side Duplex - New for 2025 Shared Pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular New Bern attraction you love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
