Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- To get the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Sounds Perfect - Bright and airy sound front home w/dock. 2 blocks to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
