Rental property booking tips:
Get the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in Emerald Isle:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Sounds Perfect - Bright and airy sound front home w/dock. 2 blocks to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. message the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
