Our top Vacation rental booking tips:

Finding your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Peaceful 3BR/2.5BA home, easy walk/bike to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
