How to find the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Reserve your New Bern rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Peaceful 3BR\/2.5BA home, easy walk\/bike to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
