Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, change your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home in Atlantic Beach:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanside Home with Elevator in Atlantic Beach, NC! (Once Upon a Tide) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More tips for your visit:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.

- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
