Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Start by having your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Spacious Loft on Middle Lane in Historic Downtown Beaufort has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you crave, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
