Rental home tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in New Bern. To find the largest rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation home in New Bern:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Large 3 bedroom townhome with cable and internet has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
