Our top New Bern vacation rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Just steps to the Beach! Oceanfront w\/ Beautiful View has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
