Finding the best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, shift your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Great Location for Beach, Sun, and Fun! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
