Tips for getting the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Choosing and booking your New Bern rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Double Queen-Unit 107 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
