Tricks and tips to get the best Beaufort vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the best rental:

  • First, have your family commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Coastal cottage in beautiful minutes from downtown Beaufort NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
