Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • To find the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Charming, warm & tranquil historic downtown New Bern home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
