Strategies for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Beautiful Emerald Isle Ocean Side Home, Steps from the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
