Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose your New Bern rental:
- Start by having your group select dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Amenities GALORE! Private pool, hot tub, elevator and more has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
