Our top New Bern rental home tips:

When to visit & When to book:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. A series of villas surrounded by oak trees, a 2 minute walk to the Ocean has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
