Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- To find the best value, try changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Third-Floor Ocean-View Condo Overlooking Courtyard w\/Private Balcony, Free WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
