Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Beaufort. To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Sea Glass Cottage has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern attraction you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
