Tips and Tricks to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Surf\/Break, Soundside House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
