Strategies for getting the best Beaufort vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:
- To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Seaside Cottage, Soundfront House in Beaufort, NC has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
