Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Atlantic Beach. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation rental in the New Bern area:
- To start, have your group choose dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Large 5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths on the sound and walking distance to beach and shops has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
