Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting the best vacation home in Beaufort:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Enjoy the Beach, Birds and Boats @ The Bluebird has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain New Bern beach you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
