Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Emerald Escape, Oceanview House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific New Bern beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
