Tips for getting the best rental experience:
When to visit New Bern & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your New Bern rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Downtown 3BR walk everywhere to downtown shops and restaurants. 2 blocks away has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
