How to get the best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your New Bern rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation home:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Coastal Retreat w/ Boat Parking and Large Private Backyard has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
