Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. A Southern Exposure, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
